OUR STORY
Pasture to Plate Farms is the result of like-minded friends Ryan Batchelor and Joshua Futral. They both came from a background of farming in their families as most natives of Onslow County did.
Things have greatly changed over the years from a time when nearly everyone lived on a small farm or worked on small farms to where most of the farm land and livestock is farmed by a small number of people on a large commercial scale.
Ryan spent his teenage years working in tobacco fields for local farmers and on commercial poultry farms. Joshua grew up on a commercial turkey farm that his father built in 1989. Joshua helped on the family farm from the time he was a child until his father decided to end his contract with the integrator in 2020. Ryan and Joshua’s passion for farming had both of them searching for a better way of farming than the conventional way.
One night at a gathering through conversation they discovered they were both researching regenerative farming. The idea of Pasture to Plate Farms was born. In the spring of 2021 they ordered their first chickens and began growing chickens with pasture based regenerative farming methods. The vision for Pasture to Plate Farms is to transform the land to a flourishing farm using regenerative practices while providing delicious healthy food for the community.
