“Ever since I can remember [I’ve been farming]” said Keith Sargent of Sarge’s Farm. He farms an acre in Currie, NC and has four more he can grow on in the future. When Keith was a child, his father gave him and his siblings each a plot to grow on. “Whatever we made of the land, we got to keep” he reminisces. Keith prides himself in his greenhouses, 16 feet tall and made with recycled materials. Keith raises chickens for eggs and meat. He sells to members of his church and to butchers, 700 chickens at a time. Keith laughs, saying “I love to see it grow; I hate to see it not grow.”
